About the event

DOC MARTIN + BRIAN BUSTO is listed for OCT 17 2026 at The Nest at St. Pete Brewing Co. in ST. PETERSBURG. The advertised program is categorized as house / deep house, with a club format. Explore the announced artists and their musical backgrounds below before planning your visit.

For electronic-music fans following house / deep house, this listing brings together the available artist, venue and event details in one place. Doors, entry requirements and any changes should be confirmed against the organizer's event-specific announcement before traveling.

Artist spotlight: When Doc Martin began DJing house records in San Francisco in 1986, the American rave circuit had not yet acquired its modern festival infrastructure. He developed a reputation for long, genre-crossing sets built from deep digging in record stores and an ear for acid house, techno and soul. A move to Los Angeles in the early 1990s brought him into a scene where he became a defining West Coast selector. His October 17, 2026 St. Petersburg appearance alongside Brian Busto at The Nest connects that history to Tampa Bay’s Serious Soul tradition. The event itself is confirmed by its ticket vendor, while The DJ Hangout distinguishes his established career from any unverified future residencies.

There is an entire category of DJ whose influence will never fit neatly into a festival ranking. They help make the nights other people remember. They find the records, book the room, put someone new behind the decks, and turn a collection of strangers into a scene. In Tampa Bay, Brian Busto has been doing that work for more than three decades. His story begins in Florida’s formative rave years, when the reputation of a club spread through word of mouth and the music had to earn every minute of the night. According to Busto’s own account, hearing electronic dance music at SIMONS in Gainesville changed his direction. He started DJing in 1994. That date matters: this was long before a social-media clip could hand a bedroom selector a following overnight. The records came first. The career would follow, one room at a time. In the updated biography on his own SoundCloud page, Busto identifies Beanjuice as his first DJ residency, in 1995. He describes it as a queer-run, late-night space that welcomed Tampa Bay’s house lovers, ravers and outsiders. His next documented residency came in 1996 in the courtyard of The Castle, the Ybor City venue closely associated with Tampa’s after-dark culture. By 1997, he says, he was helping launch another after-hours venture: Silver Meteor. There is one important archival wrinkle. A 2014 Creative Loafing interview and an older Resident Advisor biography describe The Castle as his first residency, without mentioning Beanjuice. We use Busto’s more detailed first-person chronology for the 1995 Beanjuice date, while keeping that difference clear rather than pretending a missing 1995 flyer has been found. The cast of later rooms reads like a short history of Tampa nightlife: Rain Lounge, Malios, Bahassa, Ceviche, Hyde Park Café, Iberian Rooster and The Castle. These places were not interchangeable addresses. They were stages in the development of both a DJ and a local audience learning to follow underground sounds. A 2014 Creative Loafing feature explains how Busto became connected to one of Tampa’s defining underground rooms, Hyde Park Café. After a guest appearance with DJ Three in 2007, he was asked to open at the influential Snatch night the following year. DJ Three’s support led to opportunities for Busto to organize his own parties. A monthly night became more frequent, eventually evolving into a Friday-night residency. Serious Soul emerged from that momentum. It was not simply another logo on a flyer. The programming brought respected touring house and techno artists into the same conversation as Tampa Bay selectors, making discovery part of the attraction. Brian’s philosophy was deliberately unflashy: the quality of the sound system, the booth and the dance floor mattered more than spectacle. A visiting DJ can play a set and catch a flight. A resident promoter has a different job: convince people the next night will be worth coming out for, then do it again. And again. That is how a region develops its own taste rather than borrowing somebody else’s. Busto’s story does not stop at promoting or playing records. Follow the credits and an entirely different picture appears. In December 2017, Tampa’s Slightly OFF released Primitive Emotion, a collaboration between Busto and Luigi Seija, with remixes from Dead Space, Emiliano Martini, Chad Neiro and Chris Mitchell. The release documents two Florida-based artists working inside a wider underground network. In 2018 he provided both a remix and a dub mix for Jay Dynan and Rob Pearson’s Electronic Music EP, also on Slightly OFF. By 2021, the label’s catalog included his interpretation of Orlando Voorn’s The Right Way. His broader Beatport credits include Stuck In A Hole and Tribe Mechanics, along with other releases and remixes on underground imprints. Those names are not decorations for a press biography. They are records a curious reader can actually find and listen to. Brian’s taste reaches into Chicago house, Detroit techno, acid textures and unexpected Italo or Balearic detours. His own four-word description does the job better than a genre spreadsheet: “I always play deep.” Deep does not mean sleepy. Sometimes it means holding back the obvious drop until the room is ready for it. In a SoundCloud recording published in March 2026, Busto identifies All About The Locals as a series he started in Tampa in 2011. The recording is from the twenty-first edition, held at The Nest in St. Petersburg on March 14, 2026. You can listen to the set yourself; it is not a claim built from a vague social-media memory. A series like that does something headline culture often overlooks. Local DJs need real people listening in a real room, other DJs in the booth, and the chance to learn what works outside their headphones. It is a bridge between practicing at home and becoming part of a community. The fact that the series reached a twenty-first installment says more about the long haul than any one-night attendance claim could. Busto has also posted sets recorded at The Nest in 2025 and a mix labeled La Boum de Luxe / FM4 Austria from July 2023. The latter is presented here as the title of his public recording, not as an independently confirmed international radio broadcast. A mix archive is valuable evidence precisely because it lets listeners hear the selections rather than take the biography’s word for it. This is not a nostalgia story. In 2026, the Serious Soul and Hallucienda partnership brought artists including Öona Dahl and DJ Three to The Nest at St. Pete Brewing Co. A September event paired Three with Busto for another vinyl-led night. The October 17 bill with Los Angeles house veteran Doc Martin brought the residency toward its close. The actual event listing also names Dreezz and Slick Vizion. In a Creative Loafing preview published October 14, Busto called Doc Martin an important inspiration and explained how much the team had wanted to bring him back. That makes the pairing more interesting than two names on a poster: it is a circle of influence between generations of DJs who helped build the underground in different American cities. After more than thirty years, Busto is still doing the difficult part—showing up, listening, taking musical chances and helping other artists find a room. You can count the releases, residencies and parties. But the real measure is what remains after the last track ends: a scene with people who want to come back. Some DJs follow the scene. Brian Busto helped build one—and he has not stopped playing.
