THE DJ HANGOUT / ARTIST PROFILE

Subb-an

Birmingham doesn't always get the international dance-music headlines that London and Berlin receive, but the Midlands has a serious club history of its own. Subb-an came out of that environment, developing deep, hypnotic house productions and DJ sets that owe as much to patience as to volume. Releases on Crosstown Rebels, One Records and Spectral Sound established his reputation, while sets at fabric, DC-10 and Houghton took that sound into very different rooms. His collaborations include work with Adam Shelton and other artists across the underground house circuit. There's a useful lesson here: an unmistakable groove can outlast the fashion surrounding it.
