CHAPTER 01
Before the electronics came the instruments
Somatoast is the electronic project of Mark Rubin, a producer whose musical background spans drums, piano, guitar, bass and percussion. His early experience writing music and recording local bands created a foundation that is unusually wide for someone later identified with downtempo and psychedelic bass. The sense of rhythm in the records comes from that history as much as from software.
Rubin studied digital media in Austin, where he became part of a creative environment mixing electronic music, live performance and circus-inspired arts. It is a musical identity built from curiosity rather than a strict checklist of club genres.
