THE DJ HANGOUT / ARTIST PROFILE

Soichi Terada

Long before Japanese house music became a favorite rediscovery for international record collectors, Soichi Terada was making it. In 1989 he produced Sun Shower for singer Nami Shimada, a record whose melodic warmth reflected his love of New York house while maintaining its own personality. Years later, the Sounds From The Far East collection on Rush Hour helped a new generation hear those productions. Terada's later live performances have brought that catalog back into contemporary clubs. His career is a reminder that a record doesn't always find its full audience when it first comes out—sometimes it takes another generation of DJs to open the door.
