THE DJ HANGOUT / ARTIST PROFILE

Sir. Loin

Sir. Loin's musical geography runs in both directions. Born in Nairobi and raised in Bristol, Zachary Saitoti learned to love the underground through UK drum-and-bass and bass-heavy parties. When he returned to Nairobi in 2010, that record education became part of the city's expanding club culture. He teamed up with DJ Sesi and DJ Panik as Noise On Demand, working across house, drum and bass and electronic sounds built for high-energy rooms. Over time he also began producing his own music, including lo-fi and bass experiments. It's a useful reminder that ‘local’ doesn't always mean someone has spent their whole life in one place. What matters for a city's music story is the work a DJ contributes when they're there.
