CHAPTER 01
A guitarist discovers another instrument
Ooga’s artist biography describes growing up in California’s Bay Area with a love of guitar before becoming interested in electronic bass production. That background is audible in the way the records privilege rhythm and musical interaction, not only a single distorted bass figure. A guitar-informed phrase and an unusual synthetic sound can each have a role in the same groove.
The music draws from funk while keeping the freedom of experimental bass. It can be playful without treating the craft as a joke. A surprisingly placed percussion sound or moment of rhythmic silence can change how a listener feels the next bar. Those are small choices, but together they create a recognizable sense of movement.
CHAPTER 02
The release trail
The artist’s public catalog includes Eternal and Vibington from 2022, What Makes It Work and Caveman from 2023, and Brain Legs and the paired Oogarage / Sports release from 2024. Da Phunk followed in 2025. Those titles serve as a concrete listening path through the project’s evolving use of low end, melody and groove.
The July 2024 Oogarage recording is identified as an individual track in the paired release, while later SoundCloud uploads include edits and mixes. It is worth keeping studio releases and performance recordings separate: a DJ set can contain unreleased work or versions intended only for a live audience, whereas a dated release is a fixed snapshot of the producer’s choices.
CHAPTER 03
What happens when the music meets a crowd
Ooga’s public SoundCloud account includes sets labeled Secret Dreams in July 2025 and Tipper & Friends at the Gorge Amphitheatre that same month. These recordings provide a more immediate sense of performance pacing than any genre summary. They also place the artist among audiences that follow unusual bass production and long-form electronic sets.
The DJ Hangout already carries a verified November 20 Asheville event pairing Ooga with Mindex and Smigonaut. That lineup is an invitation to compare related but distinct styles: one project rooted in experimental composition, one combining jazz-influenced bass and another committed to funky rhythmic play. The connected artist pages should let visitors move between the event and those individual artistic stories.
