THE DJ HANGOUT / ARTIST PROFILE

Nina Kraviz

Nina Kraviz followed an unlikely route toward international techno. Born in Irkutsk, Siberia, she moved to Moscow to study dentistry while becoming increasingly involved in house music. Her late-2000s productions on labels including Underground Quality and Rekids opened the door to a solo career; Ghetto Kraviz became a particularly enduring club track. She launched the трип (Trip) label in 2014, creating a platform for stranger, harder and more adventurous music. The trajectory says something useful about underground careers: the breakthrough record matters, but the label and the artist's choices afterward determine what kind of scene they help build.
