THE DJ HANGOUT / ARTIST PROFILE

Mareena

Berlin techno didn't become an institution by accident. DJs kept showing up, making records and running parties when nobody was talking about festival headliner fees. Mareena's story belongs to that tradition. After growing up around East Germany's early underground parties, she moved to Berlin in 2004 and began DJing. A Tresor residency dating to 2012 became one of her anchors. She later created UNRUSH in 2016, a space for ambient music alongside her driving, vinyl-rooted techno. That's what makes her a particularly interesting Berlin profile: one artist working both sides of the dance floor, from relentless forward motion to the moment the room needs to slow down.
