THE DJ HANGOUT / ARTIST PROFILE

Luke Solomon

Before somebody can play a great house record, another person has to believe in it enough to release it. Luke Solomon has spent decades doing both jobs. The London DJ and producer co-founded Classic Music Company with Derrick Carter in the mid-1990s, creating a transatlantic meeting point for adventurous Chicago and British house. With Justin Harris he also built the Freaks project and Music for Freaks label, while later work with Defected broadened his behind-the-scenes role. The Classic catalog helped introduce tracks from DJ Sneak, Matthew Herbert and other distinctive producers. It's an unusual career because the biggest influence may be the records he helped other people make.
