CHAPTER 01
A DJ practice built before the presets
kLL sMTH is an electronic artist associated with Denver whose official biography places hip-hop and turntablism at the center of the project. Scratch technique and vinyl mixing came before much of the later electronic production work. That history matters: the movement of a record, the timing of a cut and the feeling of a groove can all shape the way an artist builds tracks in software.
The recordings move among glitch-hop, dubstep, halftime and drum and bass. These are not always separate destinations; they become different rhythmic choices within the same musical identity. For dancers, a set can shift its speed and density while retaining the playful detail that marks the producer’s style. For other DJs, the catalog is a reminder that turntable skills and digital production can strengthen each other.
CHAPTER 02
The records and the partnerships
The project’s recorded history reaches back to the album Serendipitous Travels in 2012, followed by Telescopic Future in 2014 and cHLL sMTH, Vol. 1 in 2016. More recent titles include cHLL sMTH, Vol. 2 in 2021, the 2022 kLL Bill EP and G-WAGON in 2024. These releases create a useful timeline for exploring the work across different eras and energy levels.
The official artist biography identifies two notable collaborations. Ultrasloth joins kLL sMTH with BioLumigen and Duffrey; kLL Bill brings the artist together with Mr. Bill. Collaborative projects do not erase the participants’ original identities. They give musicians the chance to develop ideas that may be less obvious in their separate catalogs, while connecting listeners to other producers from the same creative network.
CHAPTER 03
Building community around the music
The project also includes gRLL sMTH, an effort that combines music and gathering with a sense of humor and support for up-and-coming performers. That community emphasis is not peripheral to a scene sustained by independent shows, recorded mixes and repeat audiences. Fans can discover a producer through a full set, then follow the collaborations and find other artists who share an approach to sound.
An official live recording from The Ogden Theatre in 2024 and a kLL Bill performance at Infrasound in 2023 are part of the linked catalog. The DJ Hangout will add specific upcoming dates only when supported by authorized event sources. For developing producers, the lesson is that musical versatility works best when grounded in real listening experience, technical curiosity and a community that cares about the next unusual record.
