Kermode

CHAPTER 01

Origins and the artist’s sound

Kermode is the music project of Vancouver producer Jeanot Mey. His artist biography describes a desire to connect the dramatic energy of contemporary bass with the imagery and atmosphere of Canada’s West Coast. That contrast gives the recordings a recognizably melodic and adventurous character.

The Gravitas catalog includes Between Mountain and Moon and credits connected with the label’s compilation series. Tracks such as Imago, Arising and Moth on the Map offer listeners additional entry points into an aesthetic that moves between hard rhythmic material and open, evocative space.

CHAPTER 02

Recordings and development

The recordings to explore include Between Mountain and Moon; Imago. These titles are grounded in the artist’s label history and are starting points for listening rather than claims about a current chart position.

The artist’s identity is built around color and motion, rather than one strict tempo or one type of bass patch. That allows an electronic set to move between moods while remaining connected through the sense of musical setting developed in the recordings.

CHAPTER 03

Why the project matters

Kermode gives DJs a useful example of how a regional perspective can influence a global genre without turning into a marketing slogan. The production choices themselves carry the sense of place, and official release records are a more reliable source than assumptions about current tour availability.
