THE DJ HANGOUT / ARTIST PROFILE

Kampire

Kampala's electronic scene was never waiting for permission to be interesting. Kampire became one of its international voices through the Nyege Nyege collective, bringing a bass-heavy and proudly eclectic approach to DJ sets. A widely shared Boiler Room appearance helped introduce more audiences to her work, while radio mixes have showcased other East African artists as well as her own selections. Festival bookings followed across continents. What makes Kampire especially important to the local story is her role as a connector: the record on the decks is part of a larger conversation about the musicians and cultural scenes behind it.
