CHAPTER 01
A violinist before the dance floor
Josh Teed learned violin at a remarkably young age. Gravitas Recordings identifies his starting age as three and notes that he won the Florida Fiddle Championship at nine. Those early achievements matter because they establish the musician at the center of his electronic project: live instrumentation is not an accessory added to a pre-existing DJ identity.
Teed’s performances combine violin, didgeridoo and synthesizers with the structure and momentum of a DJ set. He is not asking a bass audience to sit through a formal recital. The instruments become active elements inside shifting rhythms, melodic passages and low-end movements. The result can bridge world bass, halftime and other experimental styles without giving up the energy of a contemporary club performance.
CHAPTER 02
The Journey East and related projects
Gravitas released The Journey East, an EP with collaborators including Lil Fish, MORiLLO, Daggz, Skysia and Bastion. The recordings show how the instrumental foundation can adapt to several different electronic settings. A violin phrase can provide a leading melody, an atmospheric layer or a rhythmic figure, depending on how the track is arranged.
His Bandcamp catalog also lists Recurring Dreams, The Tides of Change and Gates of Algiden, alongside remixes and collaborations. Exploring those releases reveals a producer who values composition as much as raw impact. CHAPTER 03
Where music education meets community
A 2020 account from the Mountain Music Festival describes Teed’s launch of Taiga Collective, a nonprofit label supporting melodic and world bass music with profits directed toward wildlife conservation. That historical project is a reminder that electronic producers can form communities around shared values as well as shared musical techniques. Its current operating status should not be assumed from an older biography.
