CHAPTER 01
A musical identity with a history
Jade Cicada is the artist name of Skyler Alecson, an American electronic producer whose music blends off-center hip-hop grooves, intricate synthesis and immersive bass. His background extends beyond electronic music: he studied classical music in childhood and later completed Berklee College of Music’s Electronic Production & Design program. Those experiences help explain why his records often feel composed, rather than simply assembled from preset drops.
According to his management biography, the name Jade Cicada was inspired by a jade cicada left to him by his grandmother. It is part of a personal musical history, not an invented description of the sound. Alecson has also spoken about the influence of his father, a pianist, vocal director and music teacher. That foundation sits underneath the digital experimentation that defines his recordings today.
CHAPTER 02
The changing shape of the records
An early appearance opening for Tipper’s Florida festival in 2015 helped introduce the project to a wider experimental-bass audience. His later recordings include Brood VII, Little Creatures, the 2023 album Pressure Gamut and 2025’s Lunar Fade EP. His official Bandcamp catalog also documents Fish Juice, Frame Shift and a remix collection for Lunar Fade, making it possible to trace the project across several distinct production periods.
Alecson contrasted the maximal production of Pressure Gamut with his Lunar Fade approach, saying the newer work was designed to give individual sounds more room. The four-track EP was also his first collection developed in Bitwig, which highlights how a different creative tool can change the arrangement as well as the final texture. For other producers, that is a useful lesson in using technical constraints as a way to find new musical ideas.
CHAPTER 03
Visuals, performances and the audience
Onstage, Jade Cicada places visual work at the center of the experience. His management emphasizes that the performance invites audiences into an audiovisual landscape rather than keeping the spotlight solely on the performer. The music can move from spacious, nearly ambient passages to very physical bass without sacrificing the details that made the recording distinctive.
His official concert calendar lists a December 5, 2026 performance at Otherworld in Columbus, Ohio, with an earlier October 24 Red Rocks date already behind us.
