THE DJ HANGOUT / ARTIST PROFILE

Fred P

Some dance floors demand spectacle. Fred P is interested in what happens when the room gets quiet enough to listen. Born and raised in New York, the producer also records as Black Jazz Consortium and built a deep-house language from jazz harmony, patient rhythms and the city's underground record culture. His labels Soul People Music and Private Society give that philosophy a home beyond the DJ booth. Since relocating to Berlin, he has continued to work across intimate club sets, extended compositions and new music projects. Fred's reputation rests on a deceptively difficult idea: keep dancers moving without losing the emotional detail in the records.
