CHAPTER 01
The artist and musical direction
Evan Hatfield is a sitar player and electronic producer who combines North Indian classical influences with live electronics. His official label biography details performances in which sitar is played alongside synthesizers, drum machines and sequencers. Unlike a DJ who simply samples sitar, Hatfield uses the instrument as part of the live construction of the music.
CHAPTER 02
Key releases and connections
His catalog spans releases on Desert Trax, Do Not Sit on the Furniture, Inward Records and Pinkturban. The Gravitas catalog also includes Shades Of Green with Morillo. These credits are especially important because they connect the project with several producers and dance-music communities while preserving its instrumental identity.
CHAPTER 03
Listening and live context
For the listener, the interesting elements include the rhythmic conversations between sitar phrases and sequenced beats, and the way longer melodic ideas fit inside electronic arrangements. The directory records this musical identity and verified label history without making generalized claims about Indian classical music or assuming an unverified concert date.
