THE DJ HANGOUT / ARTIST PROFILE

DJ Scott Valyo

Not every DJ story begins at a festival. DJ Scott Valyo's story reaches back to 1986, when learning how to keep people moving meant living with the records long before anyone could upload a set in seconds. His public Mixcloud profile places him in Trenton, New Jersey and identifies house, freestyle and old-school dance music as the records he loves to play. The archive includes two-hour dance mixes and an extended freestyle series. Much of that audio is older, so it would be misleading to invent a current club residency. The interesting part is that these mixes preserve a working DJ's taste—and a little piece of Trenton's dance-music memory.
