CHAPTER 01

From Washington, DC to international club rooms

Deep Dish became one of the influential partnerships in late-1990s and early-2000s club music. The Washington, DC duo joined Ali Shirazinia, better known as Dubfire, with Sharam Tayebi. Together they made records and remixes that connected house rhythm, progressive structure and a willingness to work beyond the boundaries of underground dance labels.

Their debut album Junk Science arrived in 1998, including material such as Stay Gold and The Future of the Future, the latter involving Everything But The Girl. The music reflected a time when club records could be patient and immersive while drawing on pop vocals, subtle production details and long-form DJ storytelling.

CHAPTER 02

A remix becomes a Grammy-winning moment

Deep Dish’s profile grew through both original tracks and remixes. The Recording Academy records a Grammy win at the 44th annual awards for their remix of Dido’s Thank You, in the Best Remixed Recording category. That achievement brought a distinctly club-oriented production team into one of the music industry’s major award events.

The duo’s catalog later included the album George Is On, with tracks such as Flashdance and Say Hello. The latter earned another Grammy nomination in 2006 for Best Dance Recording. The recognition illustrates how Deep Dish moved between long underground sets and songs that reached much larger audiences without completely discarding progressive house aesthetics.

CHAPTER 03

Two solo careers and the decision to return

After years of recording and touring together, Dubfire and Sharam concentrated on their individual artistic paths. That division allowed each producer to develop separately: Dubfire pursued techno-oriented work while Sharam continued releasing club music under his own name. A partnership that helped define an earlier period was not necessarily finished, however.

In 2024 the pair returned to touring and working in the studio as Deep Dish. The renewed project made it possible to reconnect their progressive roots with developments in melodic house and techno. At the same time, Armada Music worked to bring earlier recordings including George Is On to streaming and digital stores, allowing a new audience to hear important parts of their history.

CHAPTER 04

Midnight and the meaning of a second chapter

On May 16, 2025, Deep Dish released Midnight through Armada Music, collaborating with electronic trio Eynka and singer-songwriter Wrabel. The label described it as the duo’s first brand-new single in more than a decade. In the accompanying statement, the pair explained that they had been testing new material in their live sets before releasing it.

The new chapter offers a lesson for established artists and beginners alike: a successful name does not guarantee that new music will connect, so the actual records and the response of dancers still matter. Deep Dish’s continuing story links a formative progressive-house era with contemporary club production, reminding DJs that musical identities can be revisited without simply replaying the past.
