Black Coffee

Black Coffee took a sound rooted in South African house culture and built an international entertainment business around it. Nkosinathi Maphumulo's productions combine spacious arrangements with African rhythmic traditions, while his global sets helped bring Afro house to audiences far outside its home market. The album Subconsciously won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2022, and his residencies have included major rooms in Ibiza and Las Vegas. His wider work reaches into business and support for emerging entrepreneurs. The striking part isn't only how far the music traveled—it's that he brought an identifiable South African sensibility with him.
