THE DJ HANGOUT / ARTIST PROFILE

BADSISTA

There are club DJs who follow a genre rulebook, and then there is BADSISTA. Rafaela Andrade da Silva grew up in Itaquera, on São Paulo's east side, in a city where local dance rhythms rarely ask permission from international electronic-music categories. Starting out as a DJ and producer in 2013, she built a sound that can pivot from baile funk to pounding techno, house and bass-weighted experiments. Her GUETO CLUB release on TraTraTrax and a 2025 Resident Advisor mix brought wider attention to that restlessness. She has also talked publicly about teaching and community-building in Brazil. BADSISTA isn't trying to make São Paulo sound like someone else's club. Her strongest records reverse the relationship: they make outside audiences reckon with what São Paulo already sounds like.
