THE DJ HANGOUT / ARTIST PROFILE

Aluna

Some artists are introduced to the dance floor through a voice, then discover there is a whole DJ booth behind it. Aluna Francis first reached wide audiences as part of AlunaGeorge, the duo whose electronic songs helped define a particular stretch of UK crossover club music. Under the Aluna name, she has continued developing music and DJ sets that place house rhythms and dance culture closer to the center of the story. Her bookings include US clubs, the international festival circuit and nights designed around the community that built electronic dance music. There's more to this career than a recognizable hook: it's the work of building a new artistic identity without pretending the earlier one never happened.
