CHAPTER 01
First comes the rhythm
A Hundred Drums is the electronic project of Gabrielle Watson, an American producer and DJ whose music is built around powerful low frequencies, hypnotic percussion and the feeling of movement shared by a room. The name is meaningful: drums imply a pulse that can unite people with very different listening histories. That idea carries from the recordings to her physical, high-energy performances.
Her background in underground bass includes years spent absorbing sounds that stretch from dubstep to psychedelic electronic music and experimental hip-hop. Early record and label material also describes hand-drumming influences, but the performances are not simply acoustic percussion layered over a familiar bass formula. Rhythm is the organizing principle, connecting difficult textures with an instinctive groove.
CHAPTER 02
An album, a statement and a broader catalog
Gravitas Recordings released the self-titled A Hundred Drums album on February 14, 2020, explaining how the work brought several of Watson’s influences together in a seven-track collection that included remixes. The album helped define a sound that was able to grow without losing its distinctive sense of weight and space.
In 2021 she released Enough Is Enough on Deadbeats, a politically engaged EP addressing injustice and the experience of Black Americans. That choice showed that a release could do more than demonstrate musical technique: it could make a deliberate social statement. Later work has included music associated with Cyclops and Ophelia as well as independent releases and SoundCloud reinterpretations. Apple Music lists a 2025 project, Universal Language, and several 2026 singles including The Force.
CHAPTER 03
Community is part of the performance
Watson’s management describes her live work as an attempt to carry independent bass culture into larger rooms without leaving its values behind. She also works through promoter concepts including b.side Los Angeles and Drum Circle. Those projects are relevant to a site about DJs and event culture because they show how an artist can help develop the scene beyond an individual booking.
The DJ Hangout will connect this biography to verified upcoming event records when those records have been independently checked. For younger DJs, the lesson is not to copy a visual persona or production preset. It is that finding a musical point of view, making records that express it, and contributing to the community can reinforce one another over the long term.
